Hugofilm was founded in 1999 by a group of filmmakers, musicians, and artists, as a studio for creative interaction. Their first feature film was VITUS by Fredi Murer (Berlinale), which was shortlisted for the 2007 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Since then, Hugofilm has produced a variety of feature films including PEPPERMINTA by video artist Pipilotti Rist (Venice Film Festival, Sundance); the documentary HARRY DEAN STANTON PARTLY FICTION by Sophie Huber (Venice Film Festival, SXSW) and LOVELY LOUISE by Bettina Oberli.

Their latest productions are CHRIEG by Simon Jaquemet (winner MAX OPHÜLS Award / 5 nominations at the Swiss Academy Awards), Tobias Noelle's ALOYS which premiered at the 66th Berlinale in the PANORAMA section where it won the FIPRESCI Prize and MARIJA by Michael Koch which premiered in the competition section of the Locarno Film Festival.

Die Zürcher Hugofilm entstand 1999 aus einer Ateliergemeinschaft von Filmemachern, Grafikern und bildenden Künstlern in Zürich. Seit VITUS, dem international erfolgreichsten Schweizer Film der letzten Jahrzehnte (Shortlist 79th Academy Awards, Kinoauswertung in rund 40 Ländern), zählt Hugofilm zu den wichtigsten Produktionshäusern der Schweiz. Aktuell sorgen die beiden Erstlingswerke ALOYS von Tobias Nölle (Berlinale 2016, Panorama Section / FIPRESCI Prize Winner) und CHRIEG von Simon Jaquemet (5fach Nomination für den Schweizer Filmpreis und Gewinner des Max Ophüls Preises) für aufsehen.
